Description of Yssolebias, nov. gen., a new monotypic fish genus for an old and phantom species of Colombia.
Huber, J.H.
Abstract: A new monotypic genus of Rivulid killifish, Yssolebias, is described for the species Cyprinodon martae Steindachner, 1875, after a detailed study of the single type in Wiener Museum (N.M.W., Austria, Vienna). In comparison to the related genera of the subtribe Rachoviina Costa, 1990 (Austrofundulus, Gnatholebias, Llanolebias, Rachovia, Terranatos), it is readily distinguished by the unique character in male of the much more advanced insertion of Dorsal fin relatively to the Anal fin while both fins are much elongated and shaped as javelins (hence the name). In addition, following a separate revision of all Rivulinae+Kryptolebiinae, several other diagnostic characters (including autapomorphies) are proposed in comparison to each of the available generic names in that subtribe to which the new genus is shown to belong. Finally, a discussion on the future prospects and on palaeo-distribution of the group is proposed.
