Comments on the identity of the common type locality of Austrofundulus transilis and Pterolebias zonatus Myers
Huber J.H.
Abstract : The history of description and knowledge of Austrofundulus transilis Myers, 1932 and Pterolebias zonatus Myers, 1935, supposedly from the same, un-precised type locality in state of Guarico, Venezuela, is discussed. Based on a desk research, after several previous failed studies, the common type locality of the 2 taxa is clarified from a legal report of the Rockefeller foundation for the year 1928, written by the official collector during a collecting trip in 1927 or 1928, and it is fully congruent and ecologically compatible with presently known range of those 2 valid annual Rivulidae species. This finding will contribute to help to differentiate putative cryptic new (molecular) sp. in the future.
